As Cinco de Mayo approached, the vibrant spirit of celebration filled downtown Merced Thursday night.
Courtesy of the Merced County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Noche de Fiesta marked the debut of their Mercado Night Market series.
Echoes of tradition and festivity permeated the air as Folklorico dancers from Tenaya Middle School swirled gracefully, and the soul-stirring melodies of Mariachi Oro California serenaded the crowd.
Lively games, a car show, and over 50 vendors showcased an array of Mexican heritage items, art, and delectable treats, creating a kaleidoscope of cultural immersion at the Mercado Night Market.
The first Night Market started in 2021 during the pandemic to promote small businesses, artists and vendors.
Attendees reveled in the carnival-like atmosphere, engaging in beloved pastimes like the chancla toss and other games.
Businesses warmly welcomed patrons alongside the bustling marketplace.
Bob Hart Square served as the stage for the mariachi, who were joined at some point in the night by Merced Mayor Matthew Serratto, who lent his voice to accompany the group.
Main Street was closed from M Street to Martin Luther King Way, and classic cars from various car clubs from the area took over the last leg of Main Street.
Three other Mercado Night Market in downtown Merced events for the series are scheduled for July 11, Sept. 5, and Nov. 7
