
Houlihan Park in transformed into a vibrant tapestry of colors, aromas, and cultures as the community came together on May 7 to celebrate Planada Community Day 2024.
A cherished tradition for over 55 years, Planada Community Day 2024 brought together hundreds of residents in the spirit of resilience and solidarity after a devastating flood struck the community last year.
The festivities kicked off at 10 a.m. with a lively parade where hundreds of spectators lined the streets around the park to watch as longtime resident John Adame led the procession as grand marshal.
The Planada Community Day parade featured a dazzling display of folklorico dancers, classic cars, motorcycles and various community organizations.
The air was filled with the enticing scents of Mexican traditional dishes, including huaraches and pan dulce, tempting visitors with their delicious flavors.
Houlihan Park buzzed with activity as informational booths and local vendors offered a range of games and activities, engaging attendees of all ages.
The culinary highlight of the day was undoubtedly the more than 1,600 pounds of pork, meticulously smoked in the park’s deep barbecue pit since the night before.
