STORY UPDATED 5 p.m. June 5
Here are latest results for the 2026 Primary. Keep in mind, these are preliminary results:
✔️ In Assembly District 27, former Merced mayor and Republican Mike Murphy and Democrat Brian Pacheco, a Fresno County supervisor, will advance to the general election.
Murphy maintained the lead at 45.9% as of 5 p.m, Friday. Pacheco has about 39.7% of votes, with Democrat Japjeet Singh Uppal, a Livingston City Councilmember, trailing with 14.4% of votes.
✔️ The Assembly 27 seat is held by Democrat Esmeralda Soria, who now is running for Senate District 14. Soria is on track to compete in the November runoff against Merced City Councilmember Darin DuPont.
Soria and DuPont, a Republican, are virtually neck and neck as of Friday, 43.9% to 43.1% respectively.
The third candidate in the race, Sanger City Councilmember Esmeralda Hurtado, a Democrat, trails far behind at 13%.
✔️ In Congressional District 13, incumbent Adam Gray (D-Merced) is leading by 41.6% over his three challengers.
Former Stockton mayor Kevin Lincoln (28.6%) appears to be the likely Republican contender against Gray in the November general election. Republican Vin Kruttiventi (16.5%) and Democrat Daniel Garibay Rodriguez (13.4%) trail behind.
California’s Prop 50 shifted the district’s boundaries to favor Democratic candidates. It includes Merced County, about half of Stanislaus County and a sliver of San Joaquin County and Stockton.
In 2024, the seat was one of the closest races in the country, with Gray eking out a victory over former Rep. John Duarte, a Republican, by under 200 votes.
