UC Merced‘s annual Human Rights Film Festival “Todo Cambia” runs this week from Saturday, March 1 through Friday, March 7.

According to a UC Merced press release, the festival includes readings, discussions, masterclass workshops and of course a variety of films. Plus the festival will include works from Valley creators who answered a call for submissions.

The theme of this year’s festival is “Beyond Approval.” The seven-day festival will include events in downtown Merced and at the UC Merced campus.

“Sometimes, when we are in a creative process, we look for others to approve of us. Our aim is to create a space where we’re not waiting for approval. We are shaping our vision and listening to our communities,” Yehuda Sharim, UC Merced professor of media and performance studies, said in the release.

“With that, we shape our sense of justice, especially when laws do not
necessarily represent justice,” he added.
